Wild cockapoo and bites?
My puppy is 2 months old, i brought him a lot a lot of chew toys, and he’s getting more today shipped in. He keeps biting a lot and I understand that he’s teething but I’ve played with him and he has bit me several times and I have bled… he’s a cockapoo. He has not been exposed to the outside world yet, besides being carried around in a dog carrier bag because he hasn’t got all the shots to be safe enough to walk him. I have brought him once to Petco to get a LMPP shot, and going back next month for another. He runs really wildly out of no where. Do I need to be aware of his bites, as in do I need to get my cuts checked out? Also what can stop his wild crazy running? I do play with him to try and tire him out…
Thanks in advance

To be completely blunt- YOU are causing the problem. You are rewarding his bad behaviour by playing with him. In order to be in control- never let your puppy initiate play. YOU initiate it and YOU stop it. If the puppy get too worked up and excited then immediatley stop playing and completely ignor the puppy until he is calm. If the pup is usuing it’s teeth too much you can take the lower jaw in your hands and push down inside the mouth under the tongue with your thumb. You don’t have to hurt the puppy but just hold him like that firmly for a few seconds every time he nips. He’ll get the idea quickly.
He is a puppy. He is exploring the world with his teething. And you can’t, nor should you try, to stop his running around. He is a puppy, thats what they do. Maybe you should do your research next time before bringing a dog home.
Oh, I always think it’s about a bird when I read "cockapoo". (snickers)
When he gets extra frisky and nippy, walk away and ignore him for 15-20 mins. When you return to him, and he is calm, praise him and give him a treat!
Keep doing this and eventually he will learn that when he gets too hyper/nippy he gets no attention, but when he is calm he gets a yummy treat.
Treat your cuts with some antibiotic ointment.
This question belong in the Bird section, a Cockapoo is a bird, right? Not an actual breed of dog
My dog bit a lot, and it turned out for the worst. What you should do is if he bites, scold him then ignore him. Then when he’s calm, give him a treat. He still is a puppy, but i can get worse. Trust me, I know.
Get his shots. Not from Petco, from your vet! His wild crazy running is just playful, puppy behavior. Tiring him out is ok, but when my do was spazzing, I let him outside. Once again, I repeat, Get His Shots!
Okay wow- I was really lost for a second- i thought you were talking about a bird!! LOL!! What the heck is a cockapoo dog?!
if it is a puppy- puppies bite, start some easy training
Congrats on the new puppy! You must be so proud. I have an 8 mth old cockapoo and your puppy sounds just the same way he acted. Pepper would bite so badly that my husband’s hand was horribly scarred up. Our trainer told us to gently apply pressure to the inside of his jaw with our thumb, gently pulling down and saying "no bite" the entire time. He will pull away to get away from you. After a few times, you stop. If you do it consistantly, he will learn to not bite. She explained to us that Pepper learned in the litter what to do, not to do, expressions of affection, everything through biting, nipping, and barks, so that is what he is trying to do…communicate with you. Did you know that a mama dog will gently bite their puppies on the nose as a sign of affection? The first thing Pepper did when we brought him home was to bite Tony on the nose. Now that he is older, he hardly bites at all. To treat the bites, just clean them well with soap and water and apply antibiotic ointment.
As for the running like he has lost his mind….LOL…that is just part of what makes him a cockapoo. Poodles and Cocker Spaniels can both be hyper by nature, so when you blend them, wow! What a dog! That too will settle down some as he gets older.
There is a cockapoo group on Yahoo. You should check it out!
Good luck with your new puppy!!
