Question about taking animals into stores…?

I have a 2 lb. yorkie puppy. I was wanting to get a puppy carrier (the kind that looks like a purse, made for carrying dogs) so that I can take him with me places. However, I was wondering do businesses mind if you do this? For instance, if I went to Target could I take him in with me if he was in his carrier bag?

Businesses that serve food are legally not allowed to have animals in the stores (so if your local wal-mart or target has fast food in it, they’ll kick you out). What do you think those greeters are really for? lol.
I’ve had a couple of retail jobs, and I always thought it was kind of cute when people brought their animals in……as long as they’re small, and they don’t end up peeing on the floor. Breaks up the monotony.
I dunno but if you can take your little dog I should be allowed to take my much, much larger dog also (fair is fair)
Sorry this is starting to get on my nerves because people with little dogs think they aren’t dogs. Mine has to sit at home!
P.S. My dog would never pee on the floor but I’d sure be told no dogs allowed.
It is up to store policy and how astringent they are with the rule of "no dogs".
If there are food products in the store, by law in most places in Canada, no dogs are allowed except seeing eye and hearing impair assistant dogs.
I even got a pet Snuggly for myself, to try and get into some store!
You may take him anywhere there is not a sign stating otherwise, or where food is served or groceries sold.
You would get away with it most of the time at alott of stores and then some stores like wal mart will bust you right away. Generally any store that sells food other than a few candy bars dont really allow it but you can get away with it. If a store only sells a few snacks and candy bars they never say anything about your dog.
stores that carry food items don’t let u bring in any kind of dog here in canada unless it is a trained seeing eye or another specilized dog that helps you.i have a little poochi and even when i went to walmarts he was not allowed in because of the health regulations.he can go into hardware stores if allowed.
Put your dog in the bag and hang it on the fence outside the store.
Most stores here in NJ will not allow it. They usually have a sign on the door stating so, unless the dog is medically necessary. I would have a problem with it, since I have 2 large dogs, and it isn’t fair that you would be able to bring your dog in because its little, while mine sit at home by themselves!
You would have to phone and ask each store that you plan on going to before you go. I have noticed that some stores are very lenient about it and some are just really, really strict and point you back to the parking lot.
Its very unlikely that you’d be allowed to go into a grocery store to buy food while carrying your dog.
My overall advice is to just let him stay home. Please treat him as a pet and not a fashion accessory please. :0)
Dogs aren’t allowed in any stores in Australia – I’m not sure what the law is, but I don’t know of any places that will allow dogs. You virtually never see someone carrying a dog.
I don’t think a small dog in a carrier bag could do any harm but I can understand stores not wanting to set a precedent and I can understand how people who don’t like dogs wouldn’t be impressed.
Unfortunately it is a craps shoot. My aunt takes her two yorkies into the grocery store all the time and yet I took my three pound chihuahua into WalMart and was told she had to sit in the car–they didn’t even have groceries in the store. Depending on your state it may be against health laws to have pets, no matter how small they are, in a store where food is sold and/or prepared. If you do take your fur kid with you she may go unnoticed but if she is are you prepared to go home for the day?
I live in California and someone actually broke into a guys car and stole his chihuahua. The theif left the guys ipod, iphone, and laptop and stole the dog! My girls love to go "bye bye" but because I have had issues with this I don’t take them with me anymore because I can’t chance someone stealing them while I am shopping if the store decides to be snarky.
Even if you are able to "sneak" your kid into the store, dogs can get sick from humans’ germs, especially if your kid is a puppy. This isn’t to mention the fact that if people see your kid, they tend to make a fuss which alerts others, including store personel. I cannot go into stores because my baby tends to get a lot of attention.
I am not trying to scare you, I am giving you my honest experience and opinions. Some people get away with it all the time but I’ve found that in my experience I would rather leave my girls at home snug in my bed than chance the alternative.
Over here in Austria, dogs are allowed pretty much anywhere.
But it pisses me off to see these dogs being dragged around shops and cafes. I saw a dog in Ikea the other week. I bet he had loads of fun choosing furniture.
Large pet shops in the UK allow you to bring dogs into the shop, as long as it’s on a lead.
Your Yorky is a dog and not a fashion accessory. It also has legs so shouldn’t need a puppy carrier…I bet you dress it up too.
i think they should unless they are serving food then its against the law
if none can see it then know one knows and you can get away with it… some places will let you others are not so kind…
just rty it th worst they can do to you is kick you out of the store, your not going to get into trouble!!!
If dogs are not allowed in the stores, no, he isnt allowed either. Places that serve and sell food are not allowed to have animals (other than service animals) in them.. its a health code violation.
Target ussually has a grocery section, so no, your dog would not be allowed. Just because it fits in a purse does not make it an exception to the rule.
You can take your pup into places that allow dogs. Most petshops welcome dogs.
I dont know about where you live, but in Australia pets are banned from all stores unless its a guide dog.
Most businesses have a NO pet policy, unless the dog is a service dog. This is not only because of food being present. So, no, you can’t take your dog into the Target.
Besides, your dog was born with four legs to walk on. He is a dog, please let him be one.
Animals should only be taken to pet stores that allows them and the vet. All other stores they should not be taken too. It is not a healthy situation for the pet or the other shoppers. The only exception is the working dogs for the blind or handicapped.
Target probably still wouldn’t let you take your dog in the store. If the dog is unobtrusive and doesn’t make noise you might "sneak" it in. The general rule is that any store that sells food will not allow people to bring dogs in unless they are service dogs for the disabled or guide dogs for the blind. The stores usually won’t make exceptions since this rule has been established by the health department.
