Flying with a Pet?
I am flying Airtran on June 17th. I will be taking my Bichon Frise (At the time he will be 5 months) I need to take him because my aunt is going on a roadtrip and i will be gone for almost 2 months. What should i bring with me as a carry on for the Puppy? He will be in a Sherpa Carrier. Can i take a case of Ceasar Wet dog food? It will go in my checked in bag at the counter. Also what do they do on flights if someone is allergic to dog hair or dogs?
Thanks Everyone =)
I am taking him to the Vet tommorow and will be discussing it with him. If he says it is not a good idea then i have no choice to leave him with family
Well they told me the dog would be put under the seat
I wish it was a direct flight. But i am flying from Kansas to Atlanta then to Florida. And i only have like a 30 minute layover so i will be rushing

I took my Jack Russell in the cabin on a Delta flight. First off, I hope it is a direct flight, if it is not ensure you have your leash with you at all times.
1. Call Airtran and ensure that your dog will be able to stay with you in the cabin. Some Airlines only allow 2 pets in the cabin per flight.
2. Bring appropriate vaccination records in case some A-hole gives you a hard time about the dog. The main one being rabies, Federal law requires that dogs be vaccinated.
3. Get calming tablets, Petsmart sells very effective calming tablets. That way the dog will not bark and make the flight uncomfortable for some. Give this to your dog before you go to the airport.
If someone complains about allergies, that passenger will have to rough it up since you are already in the air and the pilot will not ask that your pet be placed in the cargo hold during transit.
Some things I recommend before you take your pup to the skies.
1. Do not feed or give water to your pet 2 hours before your flight. If the puppy needs to go, they will go in the cabin.
2. Bring a toy that the puppy really likes, if a human can get overwhelmed in such a setting, imagine a puppy. This does have a calming effect.
3. Constantly remind your pet that everything is ok.
I gave my pup 1 benadryl and the antihestimines made her sleepy for the 2 hour flight to Florida.
Enjoy your trip.
You should take to your vet about traveling with a puppy this young. The Air conditioning may not be good for him.
As for allergies.. if this is an issue.. your pup will be put (in its’ carrier of course) in either the back or front galley area (where the staff puts their personal things.
This HAS happened on one of my flights recently. The puppy yapped and cried the whole time as well as made a wet mess.
If your puppy is not used to being stowed away.. this may not be the best alternative.
Quite honestly.. I’d be P. O’d if your pup was yapping and pi$$ing under MY seat.
