Does anyone know the maximum size of pet carriers allowed on board Southwest flights? All they have on their website is the under seat dimensions – and a link to a pet carrier they sell that exceeds those dimensions. Their customer service directs me to their website, and cant tell me what they allow. I don’t want to buy a carrier, get to the airport, and find out that my dog and I cant get on the flight. The Sherpa site, says southwest only allows small Sherpa bags, but some of the medium Sherpa bags are smaller than the bag southwest sells.
The reason why Southwest gives the underseat dimensions is because the carrier must be smaller than that size — your carrier must be able to fit completely under the seat in front of you, so as long as the carrier you get is smaller than those dimensions, it will be acceptable. (The fact that the Southwest-approved carrier is half an inch too high probably will not cause someone using it to be denied boarding, given that it is their approved carrier.)
