Most places of business in the United States do not allow animals, unless they are service animals (like a seeing-eye-dog) or a pet-oriented business (like PetsMart).

Also, if you're going to be living on campus, most dormitories do not allow pets. Really, whether or not you can have your cat will be up to your roommate(s). If they're fine with it, then you could probably get away with having your cat with you at college, but suppose your assigned roommate is allergic? or simply doesn't like animals? You certainly wouldn't be able to take your cat with you to class.

Hi,
i assume shopping won't be the only time that you would be apart from your kitty... like classes? i think you should be more concerned about finding a roommate that will allow for and love your kitty - regardless of your shopping habits.

I personally have seen cats, rabbits, snakes and other animals in my local PetSmart store accompanied by their owners. Cats were either held or on leashes, rabbits were all held, and the snakes were usually draped around the neck of their owner.
